It was the 100th Centenary of Derby in WA and the locals organised a race meeting to celebrate. There were not enough horses to run all the races, so most of the horses ran in all of the races! The owners were guilty of trying to disguise their horses by painting them so they wouldnt look like the same horses in the next race. :n/The race caller was standing at the top of an old tin shed and I had to climb to the top of the rickety shed before the races began. Once up there, I had to stay. Towards the end of the day, the light was finally right to take some shots! This shot is one of the very few I took that day. I was not allowed to shoot the finishing line because the race caller didnt want anyone to question his calls. This shot captures the typical red earth of the Kimberley area, the long shadow of the picket fence and a native Boab tree in the background.
